"don't back down!"

History
Castiel was an angel; loyal to heaven and loyal to the cause of his brothers - of course - that was until he met Dean Winchester and Sam. The two of them changed the angel from his cause with their words of realism, honesty, and inevitably, truth. When Castiel came to believe that the orders he was receiving weren't so much from God himself, but rather from variants of others who were manipulating the orders to ensure that Earth would find its way into the apocalypse, Castiel fell from grace and found himself fighting alongside the Winchester's doing all he could with the powers he had left.
After sometime, aspects of the apocalypse began to dawn and eventually, Sam was lost to Lucifer and Dean found himself destroyed with a great deal of hardship to face in the future. Power dwindling to their last point of use, Castiel fell back into place as a human - serving as a mere soldier to the likes of Dean; none the less, a trustworthy, honest and undeniably helpful soldier. Castiel became Dean's comforter and point of talk, willing to allow the hunter to vent on him whenever he needed. It brought the two closer and closer together, although, it hurt to see his friend in such a great deal of pain.
As time drew on and Castiel seemed to become more and more loyal, he found himself appointed the second-in-command of the survivors group, opposing the world turned by the horrid zombie-like virus. Mission after mission, Castiel found himself bringing victory and a sense of well-being to those that he now called his family. More and more, his role amongst the survivors became clear and his past as an angel was demolished - almost forgotten, both by Castiel himself, and those that resided with him.
Now, Castiel resides in a small hut at the camp in which Dean has formed to keep the last survivors safe, and plays a key role in ensuring everyone upholds their duties. He does his best to get around and ensure everyone is happy, and, for the most part, is the go to go when you want a small conversation accompanied with a swig of a beer or a little bit of happy herbs.
Personality
In his downfall, Castiel found himself not only losing his powers, but his carelessness also. Slowly adapting feelings and other human-like traits, the fallen angel became just as cocky, eager and sexually active as his new-found-best friend, Dean. Now sharing many of the same witty comments and mental possesses as his counter part, Castiel is slowly beginning to mirror his leader more and more. He hasn't realized it yet, but the fact that Dean was the only real influence he had when falling from grace, it was the only thing Castiel could base his personality off.
None the less, unlike Dean, the fallen angel has restored aspects of his past self. He is mature and well thought out, able to keep a clear head even in the most daunting of situations and still does his best to shy away from violence where he can. He is still a man of faith to some degree, although, he manipulates that said faith to benefit him for the most part; incorporating aspects into his faith to ensure he scores with the ladies.
As of recent, he's rather depressed as a result of being abandoned by the high father and furthermore, the state that the world found itself in as a result of his past failures. He's resulted to drinking, smoking and other variants to purify himself and, in some ways, it seems as though those very poisons are the things that replaced his faith, his powers and his emotionless past-self.
